Write Your Own Business Website (1 Month)

The course

Laser-focus the words on your website.

Give your website a confident, authentic voice that convinces customers of your expertise.

This online professional development training will help you develop the language tools and write the web pages that satisfy your customers and maximise sales – so you can confidently present the business you want your visitors to see.

You’ll study in a small group where you can share assignments with your peers for useful networking, and get tailored feedback on your work with regular group Zoom sessions with your expert tutor. At the end, you’ll have content that benefits your business ready to upload to the CMS of your choice.

As this counts as CPD training, you may be able to get funding from your employer. You can book a place on the course as an individual, or block-book a class for your team.

Learn at your own pace

This course is just one month long and perfect for a focussed burst of creativity. Put in 7 hours a week, at a time to suit you.

Got too much on? Try our three month ‘Tortoise’ version of the course.

How it works

We give you the theory in the form of videos, podcasts, written lectures and reading extracts. In the case of our live workshops, this includes a live online seminar.

You put it into practice by completing the writing assignments.

You share your work with the small group of fellow writers and the teaching team.

Your tutor and fellow learners read your work and give professional-style feedback on your submission. Giving feedback notes helps to build your skills as an editor - a critical part of the writing process.

You reflect on the exercises with the group and share what you’ve learned.

You use what you learned from the feedback and discussions to review your work and improve it.

Session 1: Getting To Know Your Business’s Character – Understand what you like about website content (competition and successful websites outside your industry) and start to see how to translate that into your own website. Compose a tone-of-voice document that specifically targets your client and develop a style sheet and keywords. You’ll identify your key webpages and map your website.

Session 2: Show the World Who You Are – After exploring your business’s personality and target audience, write your home and about us pages and develop clickable tabs, attention-grabbing titles, calls to action and featured snippets that acknowledge the importance of funnel marketing and sales messaging. Along the way, pick up tips and tricks for writing concisely.

Session 3: Write Your Website – With your new tools, support and confidence, write your key webpages and create an editorial calendar to keep content relevant and fresh after the course.

Pages explored (mix and match): services, products, portfolio, case studies, blog, FAQs, contact, testimonials/reviews, news, page not found, T&Cs, privacy policy, subscribe to newsletter… and others to suit your needs.

By the end of the course you will have drafted all your key webpages, ready to upload to your CMS. You can choose to submit your web content to your tutor for feedback and/or edit for an additional fee.
